TGIF Gifts :: New DIYStyle Contest!

DIYStyle TGIF Gifts Contest

We’ve been getting in lots of great crafty/sewing loot around the DIYStyle digs, and now seems like a good time to start giving it away! It’s our “TGIF Gifts” contest. So, give a sewing gift to yourself this season–you know you deserve it!

Here’s how it works:

> Every Friday we’ll post a new blog entry, announcing that week’s TGIF Gift.

> To enter, leave us a comment on that blog post, telling us a project, garment, or technique you’d like to see demonstrated on DIYStyle. We’d love to get a peek at your wish list!

> The following Thursday, a winner will be randomly chosen from the entries. We’ll post the winner’s name in a post that night (and drop the winner an email, too).

A new blog post with a new gift will go up each Friday until Christmas. That’s 5 chances to win.

Note: One blog comment per TGIF Gifts post, please.

Here’s today’s TGIF Gift goodie:

A copy of the BRAND NEW
Anna Maria Horner book “Seams to Me”!

Seams to Me

Anna did a wonderful interview with DIYStyle, be sure to catch the vodcast if you haven’t yet. This is a really cool book, chock full of great projects and full-size printed patterns.

OK, get those entries (comments) coming…and good luck!

  1. I like bags. All kinds of bags. But I especially like bags with a built in wallet. I know these can be made because you can buy them that way, but I’d sure like to know how to make them. Please vodcast this!!!

  2. What I’d most like to see is some ideas for clothes that can be either made without a pattern, or show us how to draft a very simple pattern for them. Pattern-drafting is something I’d love to learn how to do, preferably without having to invest in fashion school!

  3. Buttonholes would be nice – how to measure the button for the correct size of buttonhole.

  4. I would like to see pants/jeans. Some people have said it’s hard to find a really good pants pattern. Tips on how to adjust pants/jeans for height and body type would be great.

  5. I am new to this website so I would like to see alot of craft fun items that I can give as gifts. Fun, different items for all ages.

  6. I’d love to see a segment on hemming skirts and dresses- especially for different fabrics! Thanks!

  7. I would actually like to know how to make those cute boxers from the last post for big and little boys. Also I would like to see a demo on sewing elastic in knit seams for stabilizing because I find it a bit tricky. p.s. I am in the middle of making your McCalls jacket pattern #5714 and love it so far! Tiffany

  8. I would love to see more holiday projects! I teach sewing at the high school level, and I am always looking for new quick ideas for me students to do :)

  9. I’d love to see some tips on working with knits, which kinda intimidate me–particularly tips for those of us who have a regular old sewing machine, but no serger. Thanks!

  10. I’d love to see some ideas and tips for pockets — how to make cute patch pockets and where to place them.

  11. Tiffany, the boxers that Sarah was referring to in her blog post were made from a McCall’s pattern. There also happens to be a McCall’s pattern for men’s boxers which is #8934 and the great thing is the pattern is one of their “60 minute” patterns!! Now that is my kind of sewing…almost instant gratification!

  12. I like the idea of quick and easy gifts. I’d also like ideas for creative solutions for stupid mistakes (like cutting out two left sleeves).

  13. I am a self taught sewer but would like to see more in fashion. I would like to see some smock kinda shirts, please. By the way love this site.
